Set-up and management of a UN organisation's special projects PMO

Client Challenge

A UN organisation was facing challenges in prioritising new project ideas for special project funding. At the same time, it lacked oversight of ongoing special project budgets with limited transparency over the status of activities, outputs and outcomes.

VfG Contribution
  • Over a period of 8 months, Value for Good implementated a Project Management Office (PMO) to address the client‘s challenges
  • Developed new project idea application template and sample prioritisation criteria and decision-making process for approving new business cases for special project funding
  • Developed key PMO tools and templates (e.g. activitiy progress monitoring sheet, budgetary spending tracker) to improve transparency and oversight of approved special projects
  • Prepared on-demand specialized analyses for senior leadership
  • Facilitated meetings and workshops with stakeholders at all levels to effectively address strategic as well as immediate issues
  • Trained and coached an in-house team to carry forward PMO activities and best practices
Impact on Client & Society
  • The client had improved oversight on progress of activities and could intervene if things were off track
  • Improved priorisation of special initiatives for UN agency and improved budgetary management
